Hearing Aids & Technology

We listen to you and what’s important to you to identify the correct product. Hearing technology, which includes hearing aids, works to adjust sounds, clarity of speech and reduce background noise. They are incredibly clever small electronic devices that can be worn either in or behind the ear to amplify sounds for individuals with hearing loss. These devices are designed with advanced technology to adjust sounds, clarity of speech, and reduce background noise.

A typical hearing aid consists of four major components:

  • microphone (or two depending on style)
  • processor
  • amplifier
  • speaker

The microphone(s) pick up the sound waves and the processor converts them into electrical signals where the advanced features are applied to help improve the sound quality (especially in noisy places). The amplifier then increases these sounds which are sent into the ear via the speaker. There are lots of styles and features out there. We use your answers to lifestyle questions and your hearing test results along with the type of loss to identify the best solution for you.

Here are some of the things to consider:

Rechargeability

Do you struggle replacing batteries with your current hearing aids? You no longer need to worry. We offer rechargeable hearing aids in styles that fit behind the ear or in the ear. Our travel chargers also hold charge so you can re-charge your hearing aids even when you don’t have access to a power supply, so even on a camping weekend you can relax knowing you will hear at your best.

Connectivity

Hearing aids can also connect via Bluetooth to your mobile phone if you want them to (you can choose for us not to connect them if you would rather keep it as simple as possible). This gives you effortless hearing for phone calls as well as the ability to utilise the technology as wireless stereo headphones, streaming your music directly to your ears. You can even have App control if you’d like it. This allows you to increase advanced features such as noise reduction or connect to your television streamer more easily.

Hearing aids have advanced in numerous ways over the last ten years, they are now lightweight, water resistant (so more robust) and so small they are almost invisible when fitted. Many also contain health trackers that can monitor heart rate and footstep count. There are many different styles of hearing aids, from invisible in the canal devices to receiver in the ear technology. All come in a range of colour options. We skilfully assess your needs, lifestyle, type of hearing loss, ear shape and budget to help identify and recommend the hearing aid that will best suit you.

Here are some images and descriptions of some of the most popular styles

slim ric

The slim RIC is a more compact version of the traditional RIC, offering the same advanced sound quality in a sleeker design. Its lightweight build makes it less noticeable and comfortable to wear for extended periods, perfect for those seeking a subtle look.

Receiver in the canal (ric)

RIC hearing aids feature a discreet design with the receiver placed directly in the ear canal, offering clearer sound quality and reduced feedback. These are popular for their comfort and are suitable for a wide range of hearing loss levels.

Behind The Ear (bte)

Behind the ear hearing aids are designed to rest comfortably behind the ear, with a tube connecting to an earpiece. They offer excellent amplification and are ideal for individuals with mild to severe hearing loss, providing durable and long-lasting performance.

in the ear (ite)

In the ear hearing aids are custom-made to fit entirely within the outer portion of the ear. They provide a more discreet option compared to BTE models and are best suited for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Completely in the canal (cic)

Fit further into ear canal and are much smaller than other devices and generally out of sight.

cros/bicros

CROS and BiCROS hearing aids are specialized for individuals with single-sided hearing loss. They transfer sound from the ear with little or no hearing to the better ear, providing a more balanced listening experience in various environments.

As part of hearing aid technology we also offer hearing aid accessories
