Rebecca Colbourne BSc Audiology RHAD – Founder and Audiologist
I qualified as an Audiologist following the completion of the four-year BSc degree at The University of Bristol in 2010 and trained within the NHS. Since then, I have gained extensive experience working in a variety of settings including an independent hear-care provider, a leading global hearing aid manufacturer and latterly a large national hearing retailer. It is my passion to help people hear and identify the best solution to get them back to the place they want to be.
My interest in hearing started from a very young age, when I noticed that a friend at school had been prescribed hearing aids with glittery earpieces. At the age of 16 I completed work experience with my brother- in-law, who is a surgeon, but as I was too young to go into theatre, I spent some time within the Audiology department. I made it my mission to become an Audiologist after loving this placement. I saw first-hand the incredible and transformational impact hearing aids can have on people’s quality of life and how much hearing affects well-being. I truly believe that everyone deserves to live a full and varied life regardless of their hearing levels.
In 2023 I was invited to attend a World Health Organisation (WHO) consultation in Geneva to support the initiative for ‘Making Listening Safe’ which aims to improve people’s awareness of the risks of listening to loud sounds and to increase the use of hearing protection. My dissertation some years previously was on whether otoacoustic emissions can be used to predict individual susceptibility to noise induced hearing loss, so this was an amazing experience to talk to peers and understand how in different countries work is being done to help people understand they should value their hearing more and take steps to preserve it.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, and also like to socialise with friends and family. I live locally and feel privileged to help people in Wotton-Under-Edge, a place that means so much to me.
